The Tour

When the Golden Triangle Isn't Enough

Golden Triangle with Jodhpur is an 8–10 day private tour covering Delhi, Agra's Taj Mahal, Jaipur's Amber Fort, and two nights in Jodhpur, the Blue City of Rajasthan. It combines India's most popular circuit with one of Rajasthan's most dramatic destinations — from $249 per person, fully private and guided.

The Golden Triangle is India's greatest introduction. But Jodhpur is something else again. Where Jaipur is pink and royal, Jodhpur is blue — an ocean of indigo-washed houses clustered beneath a fortress so massive that it seems to grow out of the rock itself. Mehrangarh Fort is, by any measure, one of the most impressive structures in Asia.

Adding two nights in Jodhpur turns a great tour into a Rajasthan deep-dive. You're no longer just passing through the state, you're understanding it. The difference between the two cities, the two architectural traditions, the two distinctly Rajasthani moods, is part of the education.

This tour works well as an 8-day itinerary or can be extended to 10 days if you want to add a day in each city. Every city has its own local guide, someone who grew up there. Samarth coordinates everything and is on WhatsApp throughout.

Planned and operated by Samarth Sharma, Agra-based guide at Taj Travel Services since 2010.

Mehrangarh Fort, the fort that genuinely shocks people

Most visitors know the Amber Fort. Far fewer have been to Mehrangarh, which is bigger, better preserved, and arguably more dramatic. Your guide will show you the handprints of queens who chose death over surrender, still visible in the gateway wall.

The old city at dawn, before the heat and the crowds

Jodhpur's old city is best walked at first light, when the indigo paint glows in the cool air and the lanes are quiet. We start early so you see it when it's at its most beautiful, and the rooftop café views of the fort are unobstructed by haze.

Heritage haveli accommodation in Jodhpur

We select traditional haveli hotels in the old city, close enough to the fort to see it from the rooftop, atmospheric enough that you'll spend your first 20 minutes just walking around the courtyard.

Delhi: Welcome to India

Airport collection and hotel transfer. The rest of the day is free. Explore the streets near your hotel or get an early night. Delhi is ready when you are.

Day 2 · Delhi

Old City Chaos, New City Grandeur

A rickshaw through the impossible density of Chandni Chowk. The Red Fort's red sandstone walls looming over the old city. Jama Masjid's vast courtyard, cool even on hot days. Then the wide boulevards of Lutyens' New Delhi: Raj Ghat, Humayun's Tomb, the Qutub Minar. Delhi in a day, which is not quite possible, but this is as close as it gets.

Day 3 · Agra

Taj Mahal at Sunrise: Then the Fort That Housed the Emperors

Drive to Agra for the early morning. The Taj Mahal at sunrise is the experience this tour is built around: the light, the quiet, the scale of what Shah Jahan built in his grief. After breakfast, Agra Fort: a Mughal palace complex that housed three consecutive emperors and whose rooms contain some of the finest carved marble in India. En route to Fatehpur Sikri in the afternoon — an abandoned Mughal capital whose main gateway stands taller than a 15-storey building.

Jaipur: The Pink City at Last

Morning arrival in Jaipur. The evening is yours to explore the old city, find a rooftop restaurant, and settle in before the full day tomorrow.

Day 5 · Jaipur

Amber Fort, City Palace, and Jaipur's Extraordinary Bazaars

Jeep up to Amber Fort, which rises from its hilltop in layers of ochre sandstone and white marble. Sheesh Mahal, the Hall of Mirrors, is extraordinary: thousands of tiny glass pieces set into the ceiling and walls that turn a single candle into a thousand. Then City Palace, Jantar Mantar, and Hawa Mahal. Afternoon for the bazaars: Jaipur is the jewellery and textile capital of Rajasthan, and the shopping is as good as it gets in India.

Day 6 · Jodhpur Arrival

The Drive to Jodhpur, and Your First Look at the Blue City

The 6-hour drive from Jaipur to Jodhpur is part of the experience. Rajasthan opens up around you, the towns get smaller, the light gets cleaner. You arrive in the late afternoon. Check in to your haveli hotel, then walk up toward Mehrangarh Fort for the evening view: the old city spread below you, the buildings a deep unbroken indigo, the fort rising above everything. It's like nothing else in India.

Day 7 · Jodhpur

Mehrangarh Fort, the Blue City on Foot, and the Spice Market

Start inside Mehrangarh Fort before the crowds arrive. The museum here is one of the best in Rajasthan: palanquins, weaponry, royal portraits, and the gateway with the handprints of the sati queens still visible in the stone. Then Jaswant Thada, the delicate marble cenotaph just below the fort. In the afternoon, walk the old city lanes near the Clock Tower: the spice market, the antique dealers, the cloth bazaar. The sunset from any rooftop café is a long-form photograph.

FAQs

Golden Triangle with Jodhpur: Your Questions Answered

The old city's buildings are painted in a distinctive shade of blue, traditionally associated with the Brahmin caste, though the practice has spread across communities over centuries. The color is most vivid early morning and at dusk, and is particularly striking when seen from the ramparts of Mehrangarh Fort looking down across the city.
By private AC car, approximately 5.5–6 hours on the highway. The drive passes through small Rajasthani towns and open desert landscape and is a pleasant part of the journey. A train is also available if preferred; we can arrange tickets. For those with limited time, a domestic flight takes about 1 hour.
Absolutely. Udaipur (Lake City) is a 4-hour drive south of Jodhpur and is one of India's most beautiful cities: lake palaces, white marble temples, and extraordinary sunsets over Pichola Lake. Jaisalmer is 5 hours west, the golden sandstone fort-city at the edge of the Thar Desert. Either or both can be added with extra nights. Just ask us and we'll build it in.
Yes, the Taj Mahal is closed every Friday for prayers. We plan your Agra day around this. If your travel dates fall on a Friday in Agra, we adjust the itinerary so you visit on Thursday evening (sunset from Mehtab Bagh) and the following Saturday morning at sunrise. We've handled this hundreds of times.
October to March is ideal across all four cities. Jodhpur in winter has crystal-clear air and the fort views are at their most dramatic. The desert landscape between Jaipur and Jodhpur is particularly beautiful in November and February. December and January are peak season with the best weather.
The price depends on group size, hotel star level, and number of days. A couple in comfortable 3-star hotels pays far less than a family of four in heritage haveli properties. We'll send a full itemised price with your free itinerary — no surprises, no hidden fees.
